Boxed Charity
A small paper-mache thrift shop container
Jesse Whisler gave me this small treasure after completing cancer treatment. It inspired this poem |
Named a “cheer-up” box and
stuffed with ever so carefully wrought wishes of love
scribed on torn, lined paper by a five year old hand
causes an earthquake of emotion
that grown-up minds fail to grasp adequate words for,
but try feebly forging feelings into a bracket
that are inadequately contained as
Charity.
