Staying Powers
How can a
mix of
Touching cat
whiskers,
Itching for
Christmas morning baking in a pastry of ironed sheets,
Watching
rain as stubby fingers paint in flour at a kitchen table
Waiting to
lick the bowl,
Tongue
wrestling peanut butter off your teeth,
Nurturing a
hapless June bug in a jar house of cotton balls,
And Mom’s hugs
Still stir
up such wonderment in a jaded vessel.
