Stalwart sturdy soldiers

Bugle in the spring 

Lined up at attention,

wrapped columns of color.

All to soon giving up their ranks;

 nearly spent

 they umbrella open

showing gratitude to the heavens

in one glorious  last burst

before spending their petals down to a crimson carpet,

 gone to rest for another whole year.
